Financial Education for Our Community
An important part of the Abacus Bank mission is educating its communities about fundamental financial knowledge and skills. Every year, Abacus Bank conducts several free seminars in the communities its Branches serve to help people understand the banking system and how banking can support and strengthen people’s quality of life and business growth.

4/3/2018 Abacus team has successfully held an education seminar about Elder Financial Exploitation and Identity Theft in CPC Nan Shan Senior Center located in Flushing - one of the most vulnerable areas of the Chinese-American population. 3/9/2018 Vera and Jill Sung, and the Abacus team joined Homecrest Community Service in celebrating the accomplishments of community leaders, NYPD Retired Detective Agnes Chan, Professor Peter Kwong and DuSanka MiScevic, and Po Wing Hong Food Market. They were also honored to meet distinguished professor and trailblazing activist, Betty Lee Sung. Homecrest is a longstanding organization serving Brooklyn Chinese-American seniors for over 20 years. Under the leadership of community leader, Don Lee, Homecrest has continued to carry on its long-standing tradition of serving one of the most vulnerable areas of the Chinese-American population. Congratulations to all of the honorees and Homecrest!

3/8/2018 Abacus Bank's CFO, Ms. Maria Rueda, was a panelist on the Corporate Accounting Panel for Baruch College Zicklin School of Business. The event was organized by Zicklin Graduate Beta Alpha Psi--the International Honor Organization for Financial Information Students and Professionals. After the Panel, students networked with financial professionals. This is the 3rd year Ms. Rueda has participated in this event - "It was a great experience to meet the students and discuss career paths with them!" Ms. Rueda said.

When been asked about Abacus received 5-star rating from Bauer Financials, Jill said "It's been very satisfying, and most importantly, it shows that we are strong to help this community. That where we want to be, it's to be strong to be able to reinvest and put our all of our resources back into this community to make this community as well strong ".

In the meeting, Jill shared that the bank's goal is to seek community relationships where our impact would be greatest given our small size and limited resources. The seminars focused on saving money, earning interest, and what banks look at when lending money.
